FAQ
What kind of battery do I need? - We recommend using 3 to 6 cell (3S to 6S) Lithium batteries for our LED Modules. The “Ah” or “MAH” describes the capacity of the battery and how long it will last. You can calculate how long a 6S battery will last with the following equation:
Run time (Hours) = Battery Capacity (Ah) / Current Draw of LED Module (Amps)
One 100W Module on a 6S battery draws an average of 5 Amps
Example: 2 Hours = 10Ah Battery / 5 Amps
For multiple LED Modules, multiply the Amp draw by the number of LED modules: The Aerial Array is 10 Modules * 5 Amps = 50 Amps. On a 6S 10Ah Battery the Aerial Array would run for 0.2 Hours or 12 Minutes.
Remember: Never drain a LIPO battery lower than 3.3V per cell! Always use a low voltage alarm!
How long is the lifespan of the LED emitter? ~500,000 hours.
Can I power your LED Module with AC wall power? - Not directly. You will need an AC to DC 24V power supply capable of 8A per 150W module. For example, if you are powering five 150W Modules you will need a power supply capable of 40A.
How long can I run a 150W Module before it overheats? - Forever, as long as the cooling fan is being run at the proper voltage and nothing is obstructing the airflow.
Can I power the 150W Modules with a car battery? - Yes, although the LED driver is less efficient at 12V. Higher input voltages are better.
What kind of drone do I need to fly your lights? - It entirely depends on your payload weight and the goal of your flight. If you only want to carry one of our 150W Modules with a small battery, you could get away with something as small as a DJI Inspire. If you want to carry one of our bigger lights like the 2X2, you will need a larger heavy lift drone such as the Freefly Alta.
Are your LED Modules waterproof? - No, but they can be made water resistant. You’ll need to pot the LED driver in epoxy or potting compound and seal any other exposed metal that is electrically active, such as the solder connections on the LED emitter.
Can I use your Air Module as a normal film light? - They are designed to be as light weight as possible and consequently are quite loud in comparison to a normal film light.
Where can I get LIPO batteries? - LIPO Batteries are readily available online. Gens Ace seems to be good quality. Our Air Modules and Lumiboost use XT30 connectors. Our drone light arrays use EC5 connectors.
Do you have any international dealers? - No, but we do ship internationally via UPS and we can ship via FedEx if you have a FedEx account with active billing method attached.
Where do you ship from? - Seattle, WA. USA
Do you ship internationally? - Yes, our standard international USPS shipping takes 1-3 weeks. We can expedite orders if you have a FedEx account with an active billing method attached. Contact us for details.
